Terrific tutorial. Getting everything to work wasn't easy by any means, but definitely beats the alternative of designing a custom template to match an existing site, for someone like me who's never built a template. Many thanks.

I tried this but have run into a bit of a problem. I emailed you about it but I did want to say that I think that the presentation of the tutorial and your helpful responses to users is commendable. I hope that I( can get this straightened out but regardless, I am impressed.

Thanks.

David, I am sure it's not that you are doing anything wrong. I had to edit my sidebar.php file to show what I wanted/didn't want. However, the easy way is to log into your wordpress admin control panel and click on 'Widgets' under 'Appearance', which is on the left. From there you can drag which widget you want onto your sidebar to activate/deactivate them.

Hope that helps,
Tracy

Hi, I am not familiar with Joomla, but what I did was add the following in my html page where I wanted the sidebar to appear:

<?php get_sidebar(); ?>

There are many tutorials out there for this, but NONE that explained things to where I could understand them, Thanks! There's also not too many helpful ppl out there willing to lend a hand to someone, I do this often myself, and it's good to see someone else doing the same! :)
I have to say I didn't follow your tutorial exactly; I'm not using the footer or header files at all, and I altered several additional files to further customize things. Basically, all I did was add the php include tags in my site where I wanted things to show up. I have a test page; in the process of redesigning my site. Well, this will actually remain my blog url, but it's not live at the time of this writing, (I'm not meaning to advertise), I'm just excited I got it together (thanks for your help) and want others to see that it is possible. http://mixedbag.flipflopmedia.com
It's all in test mode and perhaps not fool proof and not completely how I want it yet. But if you take a look at http://www.flipflopmedia.com/NewSite/index.html, you'll see that it fits the design of my new layout. The link to the blog from there is under 'For You' / 'Articles'. The Only other page created at this time.

Thanks a Million for your tutorial!!

Tracy

Never mind, figured out the problem. If anyone else is having the blank page issue, make sure when you copy the above code that you replace any curly ' or " marks with their straight counterparts. PHP has no idea what the fancy versions of those symbols mean and thus brought no data whatsoever. You guys might want to replace the above code with a plain font to avoid further confusion!

Besides the above, this works like a charm and I would recommend it to anyone! Great job.
